Troubleshooting Entity Culling

Most Entity Culling problems trace back to a handful of causes. Work through them in order and you will usually find the issue within a few minutes.

The game crashes on launch

Read the loader's error screen or the latest log in the logs folder. The most common causes are:

  • a build for a different game version,
  • a build for a different loader,
  • a missing dependency that the mod declares,
  • two copies of the mod in the same folder.

Replace the jar with the build that matches your profile exactly. The installation guide explains how to match them.

The mod does not appear in game

Check that you placed the jar in the mods folder of the profile you actually launch. Launchers with separate instances each have their own folder. Also confirm the file is a .jar. If you have a ZIP named EntityCulling-main, that is the GitHub source archive from the download section, not a playable mod.

Entities pop in during fast turns

Visibility is traced on a separate thread, so the result can lag the camera for a moment. Brief pop-in at wall edges is expected. If it bothers you, look at the tracing options described in the configuration guide, keeping in mind option names vary by version.

Something is invisible when it should not be

  1. Remove Entity Culling and check whether the problem goes away.
  2. If it does, test with other rendering mods removed to look for a conflict.
  3. If a modded block or entity with large visuals is affected, add it to the whitelist.
  4. If it still happens, report it on the project's GitHub issue tracker with versions and a mod list.

No FPS difference

That can be normal. If your scene has few hidden entities, there is little to skip. Test in a dense area, such as a storage room or near a mob farm, with the same settings both times.

Before asking for help

Collect your Minecraft version, loader and version, the Entity Culling file name and your full mod list. Clear information gets problems solved faster.
